Full-sized circus school among Blackburn factories

SET among industrial factories in Blackburn is a different kind of factory. People come from all over Victoria to be part of its production line.

SET among industrial factories in Blackburn is a different kind of factory.

It’s home to Victoria’s only indoor, full-sized, flying trapeze rig.

Students aged from 8 to 60 years travel from as far as Point Cook to take classes at Fly Factory.

Owner Steen Shoar said the trapeze rig’s unusual location was chosen after an eight-year hunt.

“It was tough to find a building tall enough,” he said.

Before establishing the circus school almost seven years ago, Mr Shoar, his wife Holly and their two children lived in NSW, travelling to Melbourne each summer for circus performances.

Mr Shoar has been performing up on a trapeze for coming up to 25 years.

Now the couple pass on their wisdom with catching and tumbling to about 50-60 acrobats-in-the-making each term.
