IF ANYONE is missing coat hangers, you might want to check a nearby tree.
A Lilydale woman out walking her dog has spotted a magpie nest made entirely of the plastic covered wire devices.
Louisa Chandler sent the photo in to Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader after going for a stroll in Lilydale’s Gateway Estate.

“I counted maybe a dozen plastic, colourful coat hangers,” Ms Chandler said.
“The silly magpie has made a nest using coat hangers.
“Just getting them into the tree would have been a challenge, I would imagine the coat hangers would have got caught on many branches and sticks.”
Bird Life Australia member Robert Grosvenor said while he could not be exactly sure which bird the nest belonged to, he believed it was a magpie.
“It’s always hard to definitively say when it’s a jumble of sticks, but it’s probably a magpie,” Mr Grosvenor said.
“I’ve never seen anything quite as elaborate as that (nest).”
Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader previously reported a woman suffered a bloody injury to her head after by a dive-bombing bird on the Warburton Trail.
In Rowville, an 11-year-old boyhad his tooth broken in half by a swooping magpie while he was cycling through a park.
However, Mr Grosvenor said magpies were generally very friendly birds and could recognise people.
“If you acknowledge them they get to know you,” he said.
