A DANGEROUS Coldstream intersection could be in line for an upgrade after more than a decade of community campaigning, with the Coalition promising $4.4 million if it wins the state election
Evelyn state Liberal candidate Bridget Vallence and Croydon state Liberal MP David Hodgett announced the election commitment this morning for traffic lights at the Killara Rd, Maroondah Highway and Station St intersection.
Firefighters, traders and residents have been campaigning for a set of traffic lights to ease congestion and give motorists and pedestrians a safer route across the busy intersection for more than 10 years.

In March 2015, a Lilydale man was killed after he was hit by a vehicle while crossing Maroondah Highway.
Ms Vallence said she had been working with the Coldstream CFA, the community group Coldstream Voice, residents and traders to advocate for a cash promise.
“We have listened to what matters to the Coldstream community,” she said.
She said traffic lights would improve safety, ease congestion and provide CFA volunteers the ability to quickly and safely travel through this intersection in times of emergency.
Coldstream CFA captain Shaun Bethell said the intersection has been dangerous for many years.
Resident Glen Robert said he had lived in the area for 40 years and welcomed the announcement.
“I think it’s an issue for the CFA and with this new residential development, you’ll have a lot of people trying to get out,” Mr Robert said.
He said during certain times of the day, the traffic could be horrendous along Maroondah Highway.
He said the announcement would sway his vote.
“If Labor’s not going to do anything about it you have to look after your community don’t you,” Mr Robert said.
VicRoads previously told Lilydale & Yarra Valley Leader there were no plans to install traffic lights at the intersection.
Roads Minister Luke Donnellan has been contacted for comment.
