Young Tassie devils, partial to a treat, have been enjoying their snacks on ice at Healesville Sanctuary.
To keep the seven-month-old joey’s cool and entertained over summer, the sanctuary’s keepers have been dishing up the carnivore’s favourite meaty meals in crushed ice.
But the little devils aren’t the only members of the zoo who are being catered for — the alpine dingoes are enjoying a taste of winter in the heat with a special delivery of snow.
Resident emus, Drum and Blinky, also had a peck at some crisp lettuce, veggies and mealworms mixed in with ice.
Sanctuary dingo keeper Bianca Stewart said icy treats were a great summer enrichment for the animals.
“Dargo is an alpine dingo, so he’s from environments where he might actually come across snow in the wild,” Ms Stewart said.

“Dargo really likes the ice now. At first he was a bit nervous, because it was something new, so we hid a lot of his food in it and helped him explore.
“Now when we give it to him, he’s extremely excited.”
Visitors are also able to stay cool while at the sanctuary with a misting tunnel on the lawns of the Australian Wildlife Health Centre.
