Mooroolbark man has rough start to hump day after shooting himself in the crotch

A Mooroolbark man who accidentally shot himself in the groin with a homemade firearm this morning was taken to hospital in a “non life-threatening” condition. But how did it happen?

A Mooroolbark man has been rushed to hospital after shooting himself in the groin with a homemade shotgun.

Yarra Ranges detective Acting Senior Sergeant Mick Duke said the 35-year-old called for an ambulance after the shooting occurred in a house on Blackburn Rd, Mooroolbark about 6am.

Police are still investigating the incident, but were told the firearm was tucked down the front of the man’s pants when it was accidentally discharged.

Act Sen-Sgt Duke said the man was taken to The Royal Melbourne Hospital in a non-life threatening condition.

He said police believed the incident was most likely accidental, but was still being looked into.

No arrests have been made over the shooting.

Another occupant of the house is helping the police with their investigation.
