WHILE the doughnut is the hero dish at a new 1950s-style diner in Croydon, the sugar-laden menu also includes ice-cream tacos and waffle pops.
And the duo behind Croydon’s new doughnut diner want to make it the fun place on Main St.
Happy Days Donuts has opened on the site of the shopping strip’s old ice-creamery, following a huge build-up on social media.

It’s the brainchild of Croydon’s Marcus Sampson and Michael Rowe.
Mr Sampson previously worked at a superfoods shop and a solarium while Mr Rowe was a music instrument wholesaler.
“We almost bought a couple of combi vans and we were going to do winery tours,” Mr Rowe said.
“Then we realised, we drink wine of out of a cask, (and) that’s all we know about wine. So we thought let’s do something else, and it was doughnuts.”
Happy Days will have stacks of sweet treats including doughnuts, ice-cream tacos and American-style milkshakes.
They’re also introducing waffle pops (waffles on a stick) — a delicious salted caramel popcorn creation.
The diner has a jukebox, memorabilia and a vintage 50s interior with a pink and white floor.
The duo picked their colour scheme from a pink flower they saw on a tissue box.
Mr Rowe said he wanted to give people a fun dining experience and make the diner accessible to the whole community.
“We don’t want people to buy their food and then leave, we want them to come in, eat in, look at everything and enjoy the atmosphere,” he said.
