Eastland is set to take its offerings to the next level with a 10-storey office and retail tower in the heart of Ringwood.
The multimillion-dollar 13,500sq m tower, dubbed ‘EastCo’, is planned for 110 Maroondah Highway on land adjacent to the shopping centre.
Centre owners Queensland Investment Corporation, who also own the vacant block, submitted plans to Maroondah Council in December.
Artist impressions of EastCo show shops on the ground level and three layers of gardens on the tower’s exterior, followed by offices.
The block, next to Ringwood railway station and opposite Ringwood Town Square, has long been mooted as a prime development opportunity.
It was slated for one of several 10-storey ‘feature buildings’ in Maroondah Council’s Ringwood Metropolitan Activity Centre masterplan, approved last year.
Eastland general manager Greg Balmforth said the tower was part of the centre’s long-term vision as “a vibrant mixed-use town centre for our community”.
“This proposed development aims to provide exceptional commercial space with 360-degree views of the Yarra Valley and surrounds, complementing the fantastic retail, lifestyle and hotel offering already available at Eastland,” he said.
Mr Balmforth said the centre would provide more details on the project as plans progressed.
Mayor Rob Steane said the application was in its preliminary stages and the council was seeking additional information from QIC.
The EastCo tower is not the only major project at Eastland with the centre finally starting its delayed undercover outdoor dining works.

The project was revealed by Maroondah Leader in May last year but was put on the backburner a few months later.
It will include ‘stylish mirror canopies’ installed on both sides of Ringwood Town Square and is expected to be completed sometime in spring.
Eastland’s winter ice skating rink won’t return this year due to the works, with the centre instead hosting an ‘Art Barn’ activation in the upcoming school holidays.
