The project will see “stylish mirrored canopies” installed on the left and right sides of the Town Square, providing shelter for diners at restaurants and cafes.

The canopies will be fitted with integrated heating and lighting, and also contain glass screens for protection from the elements..

Mr Balmforth said the works would transform the Ringwood square into an enticing and cosy outdoor dining space.

“These additions will allow our guests to enjoy culinary delights in beautiful and comfortable surrounds 365 days of the year,” Mr Balmorth said.

Vermont’s Chris Montgomery and Croydon’s Jackson Huf said the undercover works would definitely see them visit the Town Square more often.
“Everyone sits out here and they get wet, it needs (refurbishment) for sure,” Jackson said.
“If you’re coming at night, you can get a seat undercover and stay warm, and it will be nice in summer too,” Chris said.

Mitcham shopper Vivienne said it was “a great idea”.
“Our family come down here every week or two for a meal at night and it will be great to sit outside, especially in winter,” she said.

Mr Balmforth said the works would be staged and the construction would have no impact on shoppers and diners.
The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
