CONSTRUCTION of Chadstone’s shopping centre’s $130 million Sofitel hotel will begin this week, with the 250-room luxury complex scheduled to open its doors next year.

Chadstone general manager Fiona Mackenzie said trade would continue as normal and disruption would be minimal throughout construction.

“We’re excited to see construction start and for the new Chadstone hotel to come to life,’’ she said.

“The highest quality finishes will continue through every room and suite, and throughout the restaurants, rooftop pool and leisure precinct.”

“We want to create Melbourne’s premier suburban hotel experience from the moment our guests walk through the lobby.

About 120 jobs will be created for ongoing roles in the operation of the hotel, while about 1250 people will be employed for its construction.

Ms Mackenzie said the hotel would capitalise on the 23 million visitors who visit Chadstone shopping centre each year, including the estimated 350,000 international tourists.

“Guests will enjoy superior boutique accommodation with views of Melbourne’s cityscape, Port Phillip Bay and the Dandenong Ranges, as well as premium dining and conference facilities,” she said.

Ms Mackenzie said the hotel builder use noise, dust and vibration measures to mitigate the impact, while neighbours would be kept informed of any developments.

“We will continue to provide regular updates … and have a dedicated phone number for those living and working in Chadstone to contact us with any inquiries they may have,” she said.

Hickory Group will build the hotel, which will be managed by AccorHotels.

Chadstone is co-owned by Vicinity Centres and the Gandel Group.
