SHOPPERS craving even more food and drink options at ever-expanding Chadstone shopping centre will be treated to a new $17 million dining precinct by the end of the year.
Work began on the latest addition to Australia’s largest shopping centre straight after Stonnington Council gave the project a green light at last week’s council meeting.
The new precinct, to be called West Piazza, will be located adjacent to the West Mall entrance.
The double-storey space will host two tenants, both expected to be bar/restaurant operations.
The ground floor space will have room for to 290 people, 180 inside and 110 outside, while the mezzanine will cater for 370 patrons, 300 inside and 70 on a new outdoor balcony.

Both premises will be licensed and able to stay open until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays.
Chadstone centre manager Michael Whitehead would not reveal the names of the new tenants.
“We have earmarked some retailers for this new space, and we look forward to sharing those details as we approach completion,” he said.
As well as the two tenants, the new precinct will boast a “tourist lounge” style lobby which will provide a communal entrance point to the new area.
Total floor space will be reduced from 2129 sqm to 1091 sqm once the project is complete.
Online commercial tender noticeboard, EstimateOne, advertised the estimated cost to build the new dining area was between$15m — $20m.
Tenders for the project closed March 21.
The works will be in addition to the retail giant’s plans to revamp the cramped food atrium north of the Myer carpark revealed by Leader News in February.
