Children evacuated from Bloom Early Learning Glen Iris childcare centre after major gas leak

Children and staff were forced to evacuate after a driver crashed into the front of a Glen Iris childcare centre, rupturing a gas main.

Children and staff had to be evacuated from a Melbourne childcare centre on Wednesday afternoon after a car crash ruptured a gas leak.

Emergency services rushed to Glen Iris childcare centre Bloom Early Learning about 2.35pm on Wednesday.

Firefighters arrived within five minutes and staff and children were evacuated from the building with police escorting them to a nearby school as a precaution.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokeswoman said crews isolated the building’s hot water system and power before working with gas company technicians to make the scene safe.

The incident has since been brought under control.
