Croydon crash: Eastfield Road, Bayswater Road two-car crash following June storm

A man and woman are in a serious condition in hospital after a horror crash in Croydon, and the police have pressed charges.

A man and woman remain in hospital with serious injuries after a horror smash in Croydon South.

The 66-year-old male driver and his 46-year-old passenger were hit by a Mercedes Benz at the Eastfield and Bayswater roads intersection at 8.45pm on Thursday, June 10.

Victoria Police spokesperson Alex Day said police believe the luxury car collided with a Nissan X-trail.

Ms Day said 58-year-old Mercedes driver was not injured and allegedly returned a .114 breath test at the scene.

The female passenger has sustained life-threatening injuries, while the man’s injuries are serious.

Ms Day said police have charged a Croydon man with negligently cause serious injury and dangerous driving causing serious injury.

He will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 18 June.

A witness said he saw a Holden Commodore “flying” up Bayswater Rd at about 100 km/h.

“The lights weren’t on at the intersection, and without looking it collected a car off Eastfield Rd turning right,” he said.

“One car ended up on its roof, there was literally 30 people at the scene, it was chaotic and there were lots of flashing lights.”

Anyone who witnessed the incident or was travelling north on Bayswater Rd prior to the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
