A long-abandoned, graffiti-covered house and a former naturopath clinic in Ringwood are finally being demolished — for townhouses.
Work has begun at 313-315 and 317 Canterbury Rd, with the graffiti house already reduced to rubble.
Developer Ly Keys Group plan to build 26 luxury townhouses at the site and submitted an application to Maroondah Council for a permit in October.

Maroondah Leader last year highlighted the state of the abandoned house and concerns from neighbours.
It has long been covered with graffiti and broken windows and there were fears it was being used by squatters.
Choklits Childcare Centre owner Jade Ingleby, whose business is next door, said she was relieved to see “blue sky and green trees” after looking out to the house for three years.
“I wasn’t told it was happening (demolition) but I’m very glad that it is,” she said.
“I’m pleased to see the end of an eyesore and hopefully something much more better-looking is going there.
“It’s a win for the Ringwood community and the residents and it’s being handled professionally.”
Maidstone St’s Sunny Seol, who lives behind the house, also welcomed its demolition.
Ly Keys Group project manager Ray Zhao said his client wanted to create a “beautiful, nice community” on the site with townhouses, gardens and public areas.
He said demolition would continue in the coming weeks with the naturopath clinic to be knocked down soon.
Mr Zhao said he hoped the townhouses would take about 18 months to build and the project would be completed by late 2020, subject to the council’s approval.
Maroondah Mayor Rob Steane said a permit to demolish the house was issued through a private building surveyor.
Cr Steane said the council was in the initial stages of reviewing and processing the application and the plans would be advertised to the public at a later date.
