Davdot admitted to underpaying the workers more than $10,000 between October 2015 and August 2016.

Davdot Pty Ltd and owner David Leslie Hinchcliffe were ordered to pay $119,000 and $25,000 respectively by the Federal Circuit Court.

Most of the payments were to a South Korean worker, underpaid more than $8000 for work done at two hotels.

Judge Grant Riethmuller said the respondents had a “history of noncompliance” and were involved in two other cases where declarations and orders were made against them.

He said the underpayments were “very significant” to two employees considering their income level.

Fair Work Ombudsman Sandra Parker said overseas workers were particularly vulnerable as they could be unaware of their rights, face language barriers and be reluctant to complain.

Ms Parker said if companies don’t improve compliance with workplace laws she was prepared to take court action that could lead to heavy financial penalties.
