HUNDREDS of pathology workers have won a significant pay rise after a Fair Work Commission ruling.

More than 600 Dorevitch Pathology workers went on strike last year, before the Commission terminated the industrial action over fears delays in services and diagnosis could threaten patient safety.

They will now get a pay rise of up to 20 per cent and an allowance increase of up to 30 per cent, Health Workers Union secretary Diana Asmar said.

Both will be back paid to July last year.

“This was a David and Goliath battle,” Ms Asmar said.

“It took court applications, strikes, government intervention, weeks of forced mediation, and years of struggle to get this outcome.”

Ms Asmar said the last Dorevitch workplace agreement expired more than 11 years ago and another was “long overdue”.

Dorevitch provides pathology services to about 20 public hospitals including Frankston, Rosebud, Sunshine, Footscray, Sunbury, Williamstown and Latrobe Regional, as well as to Corrections Victoria.
