A GROUP of mountain bike riders have put plans for a formal trail through Plenty Gorge Park in motion with a Pick My Project application.
Nathan Chan from the Plenty Gorge Mountain Bike Club, with help from Parks Victoria, wants to “formalise” 21km of the trail near the Yellow Gum Park, making it user and environmentally friendly.
“It’s not to build new trails or change it but to assess the network.

“There will be works with the Wurundjeri Council to understand areas of significance and we may have to potentially re-route to protect those areas. We also need to make sure we’re not having an impact on our flora and fauna.
“It’s about enabling the community to connect with nature but to do that in a sustainable manner.”
Mr Chan said the club, which was incorporated in 2014, has about 80 members and host free social rides through the park on the third Sunday of the month.
The state government announced the Pick My Project campaign earlier this year where ideas with the most votes will receive funding between $20,000 and $200,000.
Voting will close on September 17.
