Ilknur Caliskan to stand trial in Supreme Court for allegedly murdering husband Serdar Caliskan

A woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death on a camping trip will stand trial in the Supreme Court.

A woman who allegedly killed her husband on a camping trip at Mount Disappointment will stand trial at the Supreme Court.

Ilknur Caliskan, 46, appeared in the Shepparton Magistrates’ Court for a committal mention after allegedly stabbing her husband Serdar to death while camping with friends near Clonbinane last September.

Ms Caliskan appeared via video link from Dame Phyllis Frost Centre, a female only maximum security facility in Melbourne’s west.

Ms Caliskan’s lawyer Adrian Lewin noted that his client has a hearing impairment, and a prison officer was in the video room to help relay information from the courtroom.

Magistrate Olivia Trumble asked Ms Caliskan whether she intended to plead guilty or not guilty, to which she replied “not guilty’.

Ms Caliskan wiped away tears with a tissue as she uttered those words.

Emergency services were called to a vehicle in remote bush on Spur Rd near Clonbinane, north of Melbourne, at 11.30pm on September 30 where they found a seriously injured Mr Caliskan who later died at the scene.

Ms Caliskan was arrested on scene and charged with murder the following afternoon on September 31.

Ms Caliskan had previously had her medical records released by the court in January.

There was no application for bail.

Ms Caliskan will appear in the Supreme Court on March 26 at 9.45am for a directions hearing.
