A young mother has bitten the finger of a man trying to defend himself from a couple of stray elbows on the dancefloor of a Fitzroy pub, a court has heard.

Anais O’Toole, 23, pleaded guilty to two assault charges and breaching a court order in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

On March 2, 2024, O’Toole was at the Fitzroy Beer Garden with friends when she started elbowing a group of friends on the dancefloor which caused the victim to put his arm up in defence.

O’Toole bit the thumb of the man and chomped down for 30 seconds, causing the victim’s thumb to bleed.

The court heard there was tension between the two groups before the attack.

O’Toole also pleaded guilty to a second assault on October 6 last year near the Moonee Ponds shops.

The victim was shopping when O’Toole ran up to her and punched her repeatedly.

The assault only stopped when the victim managed to run away from O’Toole.

Her face was left bruised with scratches from the assault.

The court heard the 23-year-old has mental health and substance abuse issues.

She was sentenced to a $500 fine and a 12 month good behaviour bond without conviction.
