The first public bus run to service the rapidly expanding greenfield sites in Melbourne’s outer north is one step closer after the company to operate the route was announced.
Route 525 to service Mickleham and Kalkallo will start operating in December with Yuroke state MP Ros Spence announcing Dysons as the successful tenderer.
A full route map and timetable for the $8.9 million bus service are expected to be available in November.
Key destinations along the journey include Donnybrook and Craigieburn train stations, Merrifield, Cloverton and Trillium estates, and parks, shops and services across Craigieburn.
It’s expected the new route will start at Donnybrook train station and run via Mickleham before terminating at Craigieburn train station.

The long-awaited route will also service Mount Ridley College and Newbury Primary School, allowing students living around Mickleham the option to catch the bus to school.
The bus service will run every 60 minutes, seven days a week, and every 40 minutes during the weekday peak period.
“This new bus service will provide much-needed access to public transport for residents in our booming outer suburbs,” Ms Spence said.
“I’m pleased to have worked with our local community to secure this new route, and I look forward to services commencing in December.”
Hume Mayor Carly Moore said it was always good news for the community when a new service became available.
“Given the level of development that is occurring in Hume, it’s very important our residents have the connections they need,” she said.
Cr Moore said the council were always keen to advocate for more government investment in the growing municipality.
Mickleham is Australia’s fastest-growing suburb with new developments attracting hundreds of families.
There is a private bus service for Merrifield residents, the Merrifield Connect bus, which is run by the developer, MAB and Gibson Property Corporation.
