A man with a knife has been arrested after holing himself up a house near a primary school in Melbourne’s northwest. The school was forced into lockdown, but students have since been allowed to go home.

UPDATE: A man armed with a knife has been arrested near a primary school in Melbourne’s northwest.
Mother Teresa Catholic Primary School in Craigieburn was forced into lockdown this afternoon due to police activity nearby.
A staff member confirmed to the Leader police requested the school enact their lockdown procedures.

Students had been stopped from leaving on time, with one parent telling the Leader they were outside the school but were unable to collect their children.

The parent said she had seen two police cars travelling down Grand Blvd.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman said officers went to an address on Hyde Park Ave just after 1.30pm following reports of a man with a knife.
She said the man initially refused to come out of the property but was eventually arrested without further incident.
“A number of schools in the area were asked to hold students back as a precaution until the arrest was made,” she said.
