First it was Cross Fit, then F45, now a new kid is pumping iron on the group fitness block.
BodyFit franchises have sprawled across Melbourne in the last year offering 50 minute programs including Shred, Beast Mode, Power, Strength Endurance, and H.I.R.T (High Intensity Resistance Training).
There are 21 gyms currently open and eight coming soon.
The Leader caught up with Sarah Nehme — a 31-year-old from Sydenham who has opened the first BodyFit gym in Moonee Valley.
Ms Nehme is a high performance manager for Essendon Football Club and has already encouraged 100 Moonee Valley gym bunnies to join her.
Why did you decide to open a BodyFit franchise?
I’ve been in the fitness industry for a long time and wanted to open something in the area that would help educate people around health and fitness. Body Fit Training is designed for people to improve their strength and fitness in a safe and progressive environment.

What is your background in health and fitness?
I have been working in the fitness industry for about seven years, originally as a personal trainer and have transitioned into strength and conditioning since completing my masters degree in Exercise Science. I’m currently a High Performance Manager for the Essendon Football Club with their VFL men’s team.
Where do you love to eat and drink in Moonee Ponds?
I love to eat at Sir Duke and Dear Abbey Cafe, great food, coffee and people.
My favourite place for coffee would be Top Notch, just on the corner of Puckle St and Mt Alexander Rd — they have the best soy lattes.
What do you think Puckle St needs?
I think it definitely needs a new healthy eating cafe in the area. There are so many people in the area who like to look after themselves and I think it would be a great service.
