Move over rock hard abs and F45 training, it’s time to celebrate a new trend in fitness.

Bar and Food Truck Stop Welcome to Thornbury is on the lookout for Australia’s best dad bod.

The “dad bod” burst onto the scene about four years ago and is said to be the perfect balance between working out and enjoying life.

Fans of the parental perfection point to Hollywood heart-throbs Chris Pratt, Leonardo Di Caprio and Jon Hamm as the men leading the charge.

Welcome to Thornbury marketing manager Jackie Doran said they had been flooded with so many entrants they created an online preliminary round to shorten the field to between 30 — 40 contestants.

Those lucky enough to compete will be judged through a number of stages including a fitness test and a catwalk strut.

But it will all come down to who is the crowd favourite so supporters are encouraged to make some noise.

Ms Doran said the event was lighthearted and but would also raise money for charities working to improve men’s physical and mental health.

“We wanted to celebrate imperfection and support the loveable but ordinary rigs in our life,” she said.

The major prize includes a keg party, a burger party from Mr Burger, a “horrific” trophy and heaps more.

The competition will be held at Welcome to Thornbury on Saturday from 12pm to 6pm.

Nominations are open on their website.
