A Mildura man has offered to return the goods he stole from a local corner store after a night in the cells prompted a change of heart.

A Mildura thief had a change of heart after a night in the cells, offering to return the items he stole from a corner store.

Payten Greenaway has told the Mildura Magistrates’ Court he can return the mobile phone he stole from Cappy’s Corner Store on Eighth St earlier this month.

“I still have it in the box, I am happy to take it back — or pay for it,” Greenaway told the court after pleading guilty to the theft.

His change of heart appears to have occurred after spending a night in the cells after being arrested for shoplifting.

Greenaway was sentenced to one day time served and released after the hearing.
