A Mildura mother of six with a habit of stealing groceries from Coles returned immediately to the supermarket to steal cheese and pickled octopus despite being banned as part of her bail conditions, a court has heard.
Lisa Stone fronted Mildura Magistrates Court to plead guilty to multiple charges of shop theft and one charge of wilful damage.
The court heard Stone was bailed on April 28 from Mildura Police Station under the condition she would not return to Coles supermarket in Mildura on Langtree Ave.
Stone immediately returned to Coles on Langtree Ave upon her release and began stealing items. A staff member recognised Stone and called police, but by the time they arrived she had left.
Police found Stone 15 minutes later sitting outside the public toilets on Pine Ave with her bizarre grocery haul that included three packets of cheese and pickled octopus.
On another occasion in April, Stone arrived at the supermarket with two shopping bags and filled them up, leaving without making any attempt to pay.
In another incident in August of last year, Stone was seen running across multiple lanes of traffic, attempting to kick cars.
One car was damaged and stopped, at which point Stone ran up to the driver’s side window and started pulling it back and forth until it shattered.
The court heard Stone’s offending was linked to her mental health, directly influenced by her ongoing alcohol and methamphetamine use.
“If only you could stop taking drugs and drinking alcohol your health issues would resolve it would seem,” Magistrate Patrick Southey said.
Despite this Mr Southey said Stone’s mental health issues were no excuse and the court “(has) to send you a message to cut it out.”
Stone was sentenced to 28 days behind bars.
