A Mildura teenager was the getaway driver in a horror attack on a man who was lured to a remote location only to be bashed over the head with a shotgun.
Jessy Brown, 18, appeared before the court for his involvement in the shocking bashing of a man, alongside a raft of other driving charges.
In August of last year, Brown was the getaway driver when a man was viciously assaulted with a shotgun when he travelled to Old Mail Road to purchase a 2004 Ford Falcon.
He admitted through his lawyer that he was aware a confrontation was going to take place, but denied having any knowledge of the weapon being produced.
It was revealed during the hearing that he didn’t leave the car while the assault took place.
Brown pleaded guilty and pledged to turn his life around, apologising to the victim’s mother who was present at the hearing.
“I would just like to say, for starters, (getting involved) was dumb. Next time I am going to stay away from those types of people. It doesn’t lead anywhere but jail,” he said.
He then went on to say he would apologise if the victim was there.
It was revealed in court that Brown had been battling a debilitating ice addiction and was taking nearly 2g of the drug a day when his addiction was at its worst.
The victim’s mother pleaded with Brown to turn his life around for the sake of his grandparents who were in attendance.
“I reckon you will go somewhere in life, you just have to figure out what life is about,” she said.
Brown, who turns 19 in April, had spent 114 days in jail as he awaited sentencing.
He was given a nine month community corrections order, and placed on a six month good behaviour bond.
He was also disqualified from applying for any vehicle license for 12 months.
“You spent 114 days in prison. If that isn’t punishment enough, I don’t know what is,” Magistrate Michael Coghlan said.
