A serial supermarket shoplifter told staff during one of his grocery grabs it was his job “to come here and steal things” before making off with three trays of lamb chops and a cheesecake, a court has heard.

Courtney Walker fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty on multiple charges of shop theft.

The court heard that on numerous occasions Walker attended Coles Mildura on Lime Ave and stole meat, vegetables, bread, dairy products, cakes, soft drink and socks.

The court heard Walker would waltz in with a bag, load it up and leave through the self serve section, making no attempt to pay.

On another occasion, Walker strolled into the staffroom at Mildura Base Public Hospital and stole a sandwich and jumped fences in a futile attempt to escape police.

Walker’s lawyer Sasha Leon Molina told the court her client was currently homeless and had a severe drug addiction, which spurred on his offending.

Ms Leon Molina also told the court of her clients mental health struggles

The court heard Walker told police after one of his arrests that if he was bailed, he would continue to offend and wouldn’t come to court.

Magistrate Megan Aumair gave Walker 75 hours of community work on top of his existing community corrections order.
