Car slams into trees in Carwarp on Calder Highway, passenger flown to Royal Melbourne hospital

A single-car accident on the Calder Highway has left a man in critical condition and a woman hospitalised, as police appeal for witnesses to uncover what led to the crash.

Police are urgently seeking public assistance after two people were seriously injured following a single car crash on the Calder Highway in Carwarp on Saturday evening.

A white Ford sedan veered off the road 5.30pm and smashed into several trees, leaving the 44-year-old female driver and her 38-year-old male passenger seriously injured.

The male passenger suffered multiple injuries and was treated on-site by paramedics before being flown to a Melbourne hospital. He remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.

The driver was transported to Mildura Base Public Hospital with upper body injuries and is in a stable condition.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the white Ford sedan along the Calder Highway prior to the accident to come forward.
