There was tension at a Koori Court hearing in Mildura on Wednesday as the mother of an alleged victim lambasted the accused.

The mum of the alleged victim admonished Braedyn Parker, 22, after he was accused of beating his alleged victim over the head with a shotgun.

“You’ve damaged my son, you’ve damaged my family. How would you feel if your mother had gotten that phone call,” she said.

The victim’s mother continued her impassioned tirade as she accused Mr Parker of having no remorse.

“You have no remorse, you were smirking at my son at the last court hearing,” she said.

She then told the court how her son, who received nine staples to his head following the alleged incident, had been coping since it happened.

“He’s not doing too good. He’s self harming. He’s got depression, he’s got anxiety,” she said

However, Wimpatja Healing Centre case workers for Mr Parker said he was remorseful for his actions.

“I am remorseful for what I did. I am sorry I did it. I did it without thinking,” Mr Parker said.

“I plan on moving away once this is all done.”

In an informal Koori Court hearing, magistrates, Aboriginal elders, lawyers, prosecutors and the accused all sit around a conference table.

The hearing was adjourned so Mr Parker could receive a psychiatric evaluation.

He is due to return to court on April 10 and will continue to attend the Wimpatja Healing Centre in the meantime.
