Police have been called to Mildura Central after two children were left in a locked car for up to 40 minutes.
A couple who had just finished their shopping came upon the distressed children and pulled the very slightly cracked window down to pull the trapped kids out of the vehicle.
“We were walking out and we noticed the kids screaming in the car,” Garry Bjork, one of the rescuers, said.
Mr Bjork’s wife ran over to the car and attempted to calm the children down.
“Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star worked a charm,” Mrs Bjork told the Herald Sun.
With the kids calmed down, Mr Bjork, with the help of another good Samaritan pulled the window down and pulled the children from the hot car.
“They were distressed, but they were okay. The young fella was saturated in sweat,” Mr Bjork said.
“At least it wasn’t yesterday – could have been a very different outcome,” referencing Thursday’s sweltering 42C weather conditions.
Mildura reached a high of 26.6C on Friday.
Thankfully the children were not adversely affected and could be seen running around the front of the shopping centre and laughing after being checked over by paramedics.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed no emergency treatment or transport was required.
Victoria Police was contacted for comment.
