A Mildura woman tried to fleece taxpayers out of more than $20,000 in dodgy GST claims.
Hayley Hodson, 35, pleaded guilty in the Mildura Magistrates’ Court to defrauding the government on no less than three occasions to the tune of $20,680.
The court heard Hodson had acquired an ABN in January of last year and proceeded to lodge fraudulent GST receipts.
She did this on three occasions, attempting to swindle the ATO out of $8950, $7940 and $3890 in refunds.
Hodson pleaded guilty to a host of other charges including possession of diazepam, two counts of receiving stolen goods, driving unlicensed and driving an unregistered vehicle and was placed on a 12 month community corrections order.
Hodson was given a one month jail sentence, suspended for six months, for the three Commonwealth charges of obtaining a financial advantage by deception.
