Best pizza in Mildura: Sunray Pizza voted the Sunraysia’s favourite

The pizza shop voted as Sunraysia’s favourite doesn’t try to follow what others do – and their customers love it.

Pizza lovers of Mildura have made their choice, declaring Sunray Pizza the best pizza in the region.

The Mildura News polled its readers on where to find the best slice and it was the store on Ninth St that came out on top.

Sunray Pizza owner Michael Sergi said he was grateful and humbled for his family business to be chosen as the winners.

Mr Sergi and wife Sherie bought the shop in 2009, after a long history of making pizzas since the early 1980s.

He said the name Sunray Pizza was chosen as it was the name of the original pizza bar in Mildura, which was located where Chemist Warehouse stands today.

“People that knew me from other places would walk past, see me in the window and come in,” Mr Sergi said.

The loyal customer base only grew from there.

Sunray offers pizza and garlic bread, resisting the temptation to enter into other categories and sticking to its tried and true formula.

“We just do what we do, we don’t really follow anyone else,” Mr Sergi said.

While the likes of The Tropical and The Lot were once the store’s top picks, Mr Sergi said customers today were embracing a broad mix of pizzas, from Meat Lovers and BBQ Chicken, to the Mexicana and seafood options.

The business also tried to source as much local produce as possible.

“We have terrific customers,” Mr Sergi said.

Langtree Ave-based Pizza Cafe finished second in voting, while Pizzeria Divina and Marina Pizza also polled well.
