A man with a taste for fancy cars who took a $100,000 Audi RS4 for a test drive in Adelaide ended up in Victoria and in trouble with police after he got “a bit carried away”.

Vikramjeet Singh, a manager for a company that couriers cooking oil between Queensland and South Australia, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court, pleading guilty to bringing a stolen vehicle into Victoria.

The court heard that Singh picked up the car from a dealership in Adelaide on Friday morning, telling staff he would return it by 2pm after an inspection.

When dealership employees checked the location of an AirTag attached to the car at 1.30pm, they discovered it was in Blanchetown — well outside the designated test drive area.

With Singh uncontactable and the car missing, staff at the dealership called South Australian police to report the vehicle as stolen.

Later the same day, Victoria Police spotted Singh driving along the Sturt Highway in Meringur, just over the South Australian-Victorian border and arrested him.

Singh was in possession of an illegal drug named Kamini, an aphrodisiac known as Indian Viagra that is illegal in Australia.

Singh’s lawyer, Bert Hilton-Wood, told the court his client had simply lost track of his location and hadn’t realised he was in Victoria until he got pulled over.

“He got a bit carried away, your honour. His intention was always to return the car,” Hilton-Wood said.

Singh repeatedly apologised to the court, but Magistrate Patrick Southey warned him to make better choices.

“I don’t know what is happening in your life. You’re getting in serious trouble — you need to make better decisions,” Mr Southey said.

Singh was sentenced to three days in custody, deemed time served, and was set for release later today.
