The mother of the victim of a Mildura sex offender lashed out in court saying “what we need is this pedo off the streets” as he pleaded guilty to his vile offending.
The 22-year-old offender, who can’t be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to the offences that happened in 2021.
One of the victims parents attended the hearing and was very animated throughout the hearing, vigorously shaking her head and staring intensely at the accused.
At one point she told the magistrate, “We have waited two years for this,” and “What we need is this pedo off of the streets.”
The aggrieved mother waited outside the court to confront the man, but he waited inside the court until security gave him the all clear to leave.
The court heard in one instance he assaulted a 14-year-old in her own bed after the victim’s mother had allowed him to stay over.
The man who was given bail back in October and now lives over the border in Dareton assaulted the young girl in 2021.
The court heard the man entered the victim’s room through a closed door once everyone else was in bed and assaulted her.
The victim, who was awake during the assault, told police she was scared during the attack and asked what he was doing, to which the pervert replied, “Just checking up on you.”
The victim escaped to her brother’s bedroom where she told a friend what had just happened via the messaging app Snapchat.
She continued to hide in her brother’s bedroom for the remainder of the night, before telling her mother what happened the following day.
Initially the accused denied any wrongdoing when questioned by police, telling them he couldn’t remember the end of the evening due to being too drunk.
The defence conceded the offending was “extremely troubling,” and was a clear “pattern of behaviour.”
Despite his guilty plea, the man was not sentenced, and he remains on bail.
Sentencing was adjourned until May 1 in order to give victims the opportunity to enter their victim impact statements.
