A vile Kerang grandfather has been exposed for the disgusting incest rape of a little girl, telling police “she liked it”.
The 75-year-old, who cannot be named to protect the victim’s identity, pleaded guilty at Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday to charges of incest and the sexual penetration of a child under 16.
The offender had been abusing the child since April 2023 on multiple occasions while the child was in his care, telling her it “was a secret and not to tell her parents, because he’ll get into trouble”, documents tendered to the court reveal.
The man’s vile acts were exposed when a witness caught him in the act.
On Sunday, December 10, 2023 the victim was sitting in the offender’s lap playing on her iPad at her family home.
The man then announced he was going for a nap, and the child asked if she could come along and play her iPad in the spare room with him.
The man took the child into the spare room and closed the door.
The offender laid the child down on the bed, took her underwear off and proceeded to commit disgusting sexual acts.
A female adult then walked in and caught the man leaning over the child, who jumped away from her and the child pulled the doona up to her chin.
The witness became concerned, asking “what’s going on?”.
The pedo told her they had just been “just kissing and cuddling”.
When the witness saw the child’s underwear askew she said “what the f**k’s been going on?”
After some persuasion, the man admitted “I have been touching her”.
The witness kicked the man out and told him to never come back.
The child then disclosed the vile acts of abuse the man committed to a family member, saying “it hurt” and he “didn’t stop”.
When her parents took the child to the Echuca police station on December 12, the victim revealed that the man had sexually abused her before detailing multiple assaults dating back to April 2023.
The same day, the man was arrested by Kerang police on charges of incest and child rape.
Officers found the man with facial injuries consistent with a bashing, but refused to reveal who assaulted him.
The man made admissions to police of “persistent penetrative sexual offending” against the little girl.
When asked what his motivation was for the sexual abuse, the man said “I liked doing it”, claiming to police: “she liked it. She’d ask me to do things for her”.
Magistrate Megan Aumair said the offending was “serious” and committed the man to the County Court in July to be formally arraigned and sentenced for the disgusting child abuse.
The man remains remanded in custody and has been behind bars since his arrest.
