A man was hospitalised after a head on crash in Richmond.

Police have reported a woman allegedly admitted to officers at the scene she knew she was over the legal blood alcohol limit before the collision on Burnley St about 11.10pm on Saturday, April 10.

Police believe the 24-year-old Richmond woman was driving a Mitsubishi and travelling towards Highett St, when she tried to make a right turn.

The woman allegedly drove her car into the path of an oncoming white Ford, causing a collision.

When police breathalysed the woman, she returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.150 and when police asked if she thought she was over the limit, she allegedly replied, “I did”.

Paramedics arrived at the scene ten minutes later and assessed both drivers.

The ford driver, a man in his 30s, suffered upper body injuries and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a stable condition.

The female 24-year-old driver did not need to be taken to hospital.

The woman has been charged on summons with drink driving offences and failing to give way when turning, and will appear at the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
