A convicted Melbourne drug dealer remains banged up despite beating allegations cash and Rolex watches found at his city apartment were the proceeds of crime.

Jackie Chan, 33, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday after pleading guilty to cocaine and Suboxone possession.

Chan admitted possessing the coke and opioid addiction medication after police raided his Lonsdale St apartment early on February 15 this year.

The known drug trafficker faced more serious charges including dealing with property suspected of being the proceeds of crime after cops found $31,480 and two gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual watches.

Chan was also accused of meth and 1,4 butanediol possession charges after drugs were found at his apartment.

Chan beat the rap after a friend gave evidence he owned the watches and cash and he only kept the property at his mate’s apartment for safekeeping.

The friend, who claimed to be a Rolex salesman and provided invoices for the expensive watches, said he used Chan’s apartment to facilitate a watch deal.

The high school friend also said $27,000 found inside Chan’s safe was “cash leftover” from the sale of a Rolex.

The witness, who appeared via a car, also told the court he kept the cash made in the deal at Chan’s apartment because “he can’t count $50,000 cash in a cafe”.

The court heard a female friend of Chan’s told police the meth and bute was hers.

Magistrate Rosemary Falla dismissed all the charges except the drug possession offences but discharged Chan without penalty or conviction.

“I find the (drug possession) charges proven and I dismiss them,” Magistrate Falla said.

However, Chan, who appeared via videoklink from Loddon Prison, remains behind bars after his parole for prior drug offending was revoked.

The court heard Chan had his parole yanked after police charged their suspect earlier this year.

Chan was released from prison “about 15 months ago” after doing time for trafficking cocaine and ecstasy, the court was told.

Police raided Chan’s Box Hill hotel room and seized 429gm of cocaine and 383gm of ecstasy early on April 11, 2019, the County Court heard back in early-2020.

Chan, who was handed a maximum six-year and two-month jail term with a minimum of three years and eight months, was also caught with drugs stashed in “hidden compartments” in his car.

Police also seized $158,000 cash – including a $1000 Crown Casino betting chip – and a Louis Vuitton bag worth almost $2000.

Chan was jailed in 2020 for trafficking cocaine and ecstasy.

A bottle of clonazepam, kitchen scales and three mobile phones were also seized from Chan’s The Chen Hotel room.

Chan was taken to Box Hill police station where he gave a “mainly no comment” interview.

The court heard Chan enrolled into a TAFE music production course but dropped out because of his “spiralling drug use”.

Chan used 1-2 grams of cocaine a day which he counteracted with Xanax and ketamine.

Chan promoted himself on social media under his music producer aliases Jackie Sauce and theSauce.

Chan also proclaimed his dreams of starting his own music label.

Judge George Georgiou said, during the March 2020 sentencing hearing, he accepted Chan trafficked drugs for “financial reward”.

“You should know Mr Chan from your own addiction to illicit drugs the devastation and misery that drug traffickers cause to the lives of those who use and become addicted to drugs,” Judge Georgiou said.

Chan’s release is now a matter for the parole board, the magistrates’ court heard.
