An alleged gun carrying footy fan has spent weeks in 24 hour lockdown while on remand, with his lawyers demanding CCTV from the night he’s accused of sneaking a firearm into a blockbuster AFL match.

Omar Salma, 21, of Roxburgh Park, appeared at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court for mention on Monday, one month after he and co-accused Mohammad Noori were arrested for allegedly carrying guns inside the MCG during the Collingwood-Carlton clash in front of 82,000 people.

Both men were charged with firearm offences and remanded in custody.

Despite this being Mr Salma’s “first time in custody” his lawyer Supriya Lal revealed he had been thrown in 24 hour lockdown at Melbourne Assessment Prison with no visitors and one phone call a day.

She said her office had sent weekly emails to the prison and was unable to get to the bottom of why this was the case.

“Our office was informed he’s been in 24 hour lockdown the whole time in custody,” he said.

“There have been no incidents while in custody or any placement issues.

“We’re just wondering what’s going on ... you can understand with someone being so young and it being his first time in custody.”

The court heard Mr Salma was being assessed for a residential rehabilitation facility this week and — if successful — would apply for bail.

Moreover, Ms Lal told the court her office had also sought out CCTV from the MCG as well as security body worn camera footage after there were “allegations of making threats to kill security officers”.

“That footage will definitely assist our office in case conferencing the matter,” Ms Lal said.

After the alleged incident the MCG and the AFL announced major security action would be taken for future matches.

Mr Salma will return to court later this week.

Earlier in the day, his co-accused Mr Noori, of Broadmeadows, also appeared for mention.

His matter was adjourned to a two hour plea on July 7, with Mr Noori having multiple matters before the court.

“It will take us an hour to get through the summaries,” Mr Noori’s lawyer said.
