A muscleman drug trafficker caught selling meth in Melbourne’s southeast claims following a routine cop patrol has been jailed.

Mark Gauld, 44, was sentenced in the County Court on Thursday to a 12-month jail term after pleading guilty to trafficking meth.

Gauld was pinched following a routine police patrol at Parkdale on August 1 last year.

Police ordered Gauld to exit his vehicle but the drug dealer walked towards a Holden Astra and stashed a bag under the passenger side of the car.

Officers asked Gauld what he stashed but the meth dealer said “nothing” and then attempted to flee on foot.

Police chased Gauld down and after a “short struggle” managed to cuff and arrest the heavily-tattooed muscleman.

Gauld, who was also caught with meth stashed in his shorts, told police he threw “just gear” under the car.

Investigators probed the bag and seized gold digital scales and multiple meth deal bags.

Police raided Gauld’s home in Melbourne’s southeast and seized more meth the next day.

Gauld was eventually nabbed with almost 240 grams of meth seized from the Parkdale arrest and his home.

The court heard Gauld, who gave a “no comment” police interview, was a self-employed “land clearer” who ran his own business.

Gauld owns a stump remover and a ute and “was keen to get back to work:, the court was told

The defence submitted, during an earlier hearing, Gauld’s criminal career was nearing “retirement”.

“It may be well said that Mr Gauld is coming to the point of what may well be called ‘criminal retirement’,” the defence submitted.

Gauld, who had spent 218 days on remand, was also convicted and handed an 18-month community correction order.
