A young man who threatened to kill and torture the Premier and his family in a grossly descriptive Facebook post was found with a Kabar knife and a hefty drug stash.

Laval Huang was sentenced to a 12-month corrections order with 150 hours community work before Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 12, having pleaded guilty to charges including making threats to kill and trafficking MDMA and cocaine.

The 20-year-old gym junkie made the “extraordinary” Facebook post on the afternoon of July 7, in reaction to Daniel Andrews’ announcing Melbourne was going into a second COVID lockdown.

Huang addressed Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews in the lengthy Facebook post, making vile threats including murder, rape and slitting throats if the Mr Andrews closed his gym again.

Police then found a Kabar knife, 28g of cocaine between 28 plastic bags, cannabis, prescription medication and an extensive amount of testosterone and steroids in his room at his Heidelberg Heights home on July 21.

They also allegedly found electronic scales, ziplock bags and fake number plates.

Huang then refused to give police the password to his phone or laptop.

The apprentice electrician had been snared selling drugs to a cop at the Babylon in the Park festival at Sidney Myer Music Bowl on February 22.

A shirtless Huang sold three MDMA capsules to an undercover cop before police found 29 MDMA capsules and $657 in his bumbag.

Lawyer Emily Metcalfe told the court her client hadn’t thought his Facebook post would go anywhere and wasn’t trying to scare anyone.

She dubbed his drug dealing a misguided way to make extra money and asked for him to avoid a conviction because of his young age and lack of criminal history.

Magistrate Stephen Ballek said the “extraordinary” Facebook post was alarming to read.

“It’s extremely serious,” he said.

Mr Ballek said it was also very concerning that Huang had been “caught red handed trafficking drugs”, but sentenced him without conviction.
