A Melbourne accountant with an “unblemished upbringing” used a gay chat service to send voice messages describing disturbing fantasies of having sex with children, a court has heard.

Stuart Margetts, 50, of North Balwyn, pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to make available child abuse material at the County Court on Wednesday.

FastMeet — a telephone chat service used by gay, bisexual, and bi-curious men that requires a landline connection — allows its users to send voice messages via private live chat rooms.

In February last year, police were investigating how Fastmeet was being used to describe child abuse material in audio messages when they found Margetts' number linked to his home address.

After arresting Margetts at his home, they found 197 child abuse materials in the form of audio recordings on his iPhone that has been sent to 11 FastMeet users between November 2020 and 2023.

The recording contained disturbing and graphic descriptions of sexual activity between dads and children and Margetts’ fantasies involving young boys.

In one instance, Margetts recorded an audio saying, “I just need to be satisfied and little boys will do it for both of us, it’s f---ing good and it’s just wrong but it’s right … I’m masturbating my f---ing pedo d--- daddy”.

Other recordings contained the 50-year-old accountant making references to fathers having sex with two year olds, three year olds and four-year-old boys.

In one recording he asked another user if he had any “15-year-old boys” that he could “share”.

In his police interview, Margetts told police he started using FastMeet for a “wank” a few years ago, but the frequency increased after his partner died.

He said, “It’s just a transactional, quick chat, talk dirty, then have a wank” and that he would talk about “fantasies, taboo (dad/son) and first-time experiences”.

On Wednesday, Margetts’ lawyer told the court his client began using FastMeet for “sexual stimulation” and his use increased after his partner died.

“(During the offending) he was abusing alcohol quite significantly … he was drinking a copious amount of alcohol, lying in bed unable to sleep, he would get in that state and reach out to users on FastMeet,” he said.

The lawyer said the content of the recording was “fantasy and recounting of personal experience”.

“It was for him a matter of pushing the boundaries to achieve sexual gratification as quickly as possible,” he said.

“(A doctor’s) report says there is no evidence of sexual interest in children.”

The court heard Margetts had a “fortunate unblemished upbringing” and had completed his secondary schooling and bachelor of accounting before he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Type 1 diabetes.

The court also heard that Margetts had lost his employment after being intoxicated at an office party and had been diagnosed with “adjustment disorder” after his partner died.

The matter was adjourned for sentencing at a later date.
