CONTAMINATION concerns have been raised after large, ageing fuel tanks were removed from the State’s biggest marina.
The tanks, which were part of a former pump station, boat ramp and travel lift, were excavated from a car park behind Patterson Lakes marina.

The site is part of The Cove Precinct development zone which includes two 10 storey and one three storey apartment buildings.
Residents alerted Kingston Council when the tanks were being removed on June 13 and the Environmental Protection Agency is investigating.
Carrum and Patterson Lakes Forum founder Cameron Howe said tanks were removed with a 30 tonne crane and towed away on trucks.
“The concern is that the ageing fuel tanks may have leaked contaminated fuel into the soil and surrounds,” Mr Howe said.
EPA Southern Metro Manager Marleen Mathias said the authority was working with the council to understand the planning approvals in place for the development.
She said EPA officers would also work directly with the site developer to assess if appropriate measures were taken in removing the underground storage tanks and whether the site was suitable for the proposed project.
“If initial investigations deem necessary, EPA will require the site owner/ developer to conduct an environmental assessment, which may include soil testing, to determine the extent of any contamination and to ensure it is properly managed or cleaned up.”
The council has approved plans for the development at 54-64 Pier One Drive and 115A McLeod Rd and is about to consider an amendment to reduce the number of car parks from 837 to 391.
A petition calling on the council to reject the application was expected to be lodged on August 27.
It also calls for a review of the Comprehensive Development Zone.
