A former real estate agent has told a court the $10,000 in cash found in her car was “from a friend” when it was discovered while she was on bail for alleged drug trafficking.
Tegan Miller, 29, appeared in the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday accused of dealing with proceeds of crime.
The court heard Ms Miller was pulled over by police with “a large amount of cash on her” —more than $10,000 — in Epping on October 14, 2023.
Ms Miller denied the cash belonged to her, with her lawyer telling the court it was “from a friend”.
“We’ve obtained a statement from the friends and bank statements,” he said.
“The prosecution should withdraw this money and have the money returned to him … We want these charges withdrawn.”
The court heard the prosecution was not satisfied with the evidence given to them and that a contested hearing would be necessary.
Ms Miller has also been charged with the lesser offences of dealing with property suspected of being proceeds of crime and committing an indictable offence on bail.
When the car search took place, Ms Miller was on bail for allegedly trafficking meth, cocaine and MDMA following raids at her Port Melbourne home in October 2023.
The former agent worked for Ray White, Pennisi Real Estate and Century 21.
Ms Miller will next front the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on August 11 for a one-day contested hearing.
She is due to face the County Court for her more serious matters on May 9 for a case conference.
