Police are continuing to search for witnesses following an alleged violent stabbing in Shepparton last month.

A 30-year-old Mooroopna man was charged with attempted murder, intentionally causing serious injury and a breach of a court order after a 25-year-old Shepparton woman was allegedly stabbed on October 15.

Authorities are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen a white Kia Picanto hatch driving around the outskirts of Shepparton prior to the incident.

They are also seeking to identify two potential witnesses who are believed to have been standing in a driveway of an unknown street after 2pm, who may have seen the car and heard it beeping its horn as it drove by.

The alleged offender was remanded in custody last month when he asked the magistrate through an interpreter “why am I being remanded?”

“This is all a game,” he said.

He had also tested positive to Covid at the time.

Police will allege the woman was taken to hospital with critical injuries.

It is also alleged the man fled the scene of the alleged incident, with a four-month old baby boy who was known to him.

The man was arrested by police shortly after and the child recovered uninjured.

He will return to court in January.

Investigators are appealing for anyone with dashcam footage, CCTV or information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or make a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
