Police are searching for a motorcycle rider they believe is seriously injured after leaving the scene of a collision in South Wangaratta.
Officers are concerned for the rider’s welfare after they were involved in a collision with a car on the Hume Highway, near the southbound on ramp, on Friday about 6.30pm.
The rider, who was thrown from their bike as a result of the collision, could not be found when police arrived, however the bike remained at the scene.
The driver of the car remained on scene and spoke with police.
A significant ground search uncovered a pair of gloves and helmet in a paddock between the Hume Highway and Glenrowan Rd.
Patrols of the area and a line search by police with assistance of CFA personnel, a door knock, checks with local hospitals and a search of housing yards nearby also proved fruitless.
The Air Wing also attended and checked the surrounding area without success.
Inquiries about the bike, which didn’t have registration plates, didn’t identify the rider involved.
Local police attended the scene again on Sunday to perform another search in daylight hours.
Police are appealing for the rider to come forward and to anyone with information to make contact with police.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or motorists in the area at the time with dashcam footage are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
