Tributes are flowing for a teenage girl who sadly lost her life in a horrific three-way pileup east of Shepparton last week, with her mother saying her “heart is broken”.
Ruby Crowley, 16, was critically injured in a collision at the intersection of New Dookie Rd and Boundary Rd in Pine Lodge on Friday at 6.20pm.
She later died from her injuries.
Ruby was in an Uber with two others heading to the shops when the high-speed collision took place.
“Both Ruby and Jarrod (Ruby’s stepfather) sustained injuries that required specialised care only available at city hospitals,” her mother Amanda said.
Jarrod Stewart, 31, remains in a critical condition in the Alfred Hospital.
“Regrettably, we received the heartbreaking news that Ruby’s injuries were severe, specifically to her brain, and her medical team was unable to save her.”
Amanda Crowley has remembered her daughter as “my beautiful baby” who was her “rock”.
Ruby was “adored by everyone” and had an amazing soul, according to Ms Crowley.
Ms Crowley told the Herald Sun that Ruby had only just received her learners permit, and had offered to be an organ donor, epitomising the selfless nature of her daughter.
“Ruby was able to donate and give six people a second chance at life … I’m so incredibly proud of her,” Ms Crowley said.
“Our family will never be the same.”
A third passenger — another teenage girl — escaped the collision with no injuries.
Summer Weightman, one of Ruby’s best friends, said she “never failed to make me smile”.
“Oh my Ruby girl I’m so lost for words,” she posted to social media.
“You’ll forever and always be my best friend, my soulmate, my whole world.
“I’ll forever cherish you.
“You were my boost of confidence. I’ll never forget you Ruby.”
Ruby attended Hoppers Crossing Secondary School.
A GoFundMe has been organised by one of Ruby’s best friends Maddison Campbell.
More to come.
