A man has been arrested after allegedly hiding in bushland for several hours after he was stopped over a string of dangerous driving allegations in the Goulburn Valley.

Police arrested the Grahamvale man near the intersection of Boundary Rd and Old Dookie Rd in Shepparton at about 6pm on Tuesday evening.

Police had received numerous reports of a spate of erratic and high-speed driving in the preceding days, when the driver was spotted by police in Benalla at about 3pm.

Victoria Police will allege when officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, the driver sped off at “a fast rate of speed” – reaching speeds of up to 150km/h.

After following the vehicle for more than 50km, stop sticks were deployed on the Midland Hwy near Shepparton forcing the vehicle to stop.

Police will allege the Grahamvale man fled on foot but was arrested hours later as police combed through bushland.

The spokeswoman said he was wanted over a series of driving incidents over the previous three days and was assisting police with their enquiries.

These included reports of a car with stolen plates erratically driving in Benalla on Sunday, speeding off from police in Shepparton on Monday and erratic driving on Tuesday.
