It has been a wild start to 2024 for Euroa residents, with the town under siege from relentless thunderstorms and hail the size of golf balls causing flash flooding, power outages and building damage.

Wild storms rock Victorian town of Euroa

Wild weather has rocked Euroa over the start of 2024, with businesses forced shut and flash flooding throughout residential areas.

The storms also caused significant power outages, with many residents relying on generators to get themselves through the past 48 hours.

Resident Deb Van Lunenburg spoke of the reliance on generators, saying “I’m glad I bought and set up a generator today, for once I don’t have to worry about losing power!”

The Victorian SES Euroa Unit advised residents to stay indoors.

“It is too unsafe for us to be out in this weather so unfortunately people will have to wait,” they said in a Facebook post.

SES in Euroa responded to 50 jobs on January 2, with help from the CFA and Strathbogie Shire Council.

In what will be a welcome relief for residents, there is no significant rainfall forecast in the next few days.

The SES are expected to provide another update on the Euroa floods at noon.

Euroa is a town of just over 3000 people and is located in the Strathbogie Shire Council, and is just over 30 minutes from Shepparton.
