The Cobram man accused of murdering a woman while her two young children were home earlier this year has appeared in court where he chanted and sang.

Prem Kumar, 45, appeared in Shepparton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for a committal mention via video link from custody.

He was charged with allegedly murdering a woman in Cobram on August 19.

At the time of the 32-year-old’s death police reported her body was located at a Christie Ave home with two young children, who were not physically injured.

Mr Kumar was known to the woman but police reported their relationship was unclear.

The majority of the matter was heard without Mr Kumar visible on the link after a custody officer told Magistrate Peter Dunn he had a “late shower” but would be in the room soon.

When Mr Kumar appeared he immediately knelt or bowed and could be heard chanting or singing.

Mr Dunn told him the matter was adjourned and asked for the link to be disconnected.

The court heard custody management considerations for Mr Kumar included a psychiatric illness and bipolar.

The matter was adjourned for a committal mention on March 18.
