A Bundalong man has been arrested as part of a police investigation into an alleged drug running racket along the Murray River.
Hayden Lindsay Ross Ellis, 38, fronted Wangaratta Magistrates’ Court on November 7 after he was charged following a series of raids in northeastern Victoria in August.
Mr Ellis, who appeared via video link from Ravenhall Correctional Centre, was charged by Cobram detectives on August 7.
He has been charged with trafficking meth, possessing meth and cannabis, dealing with proceeds of crime, dishonestly undertaking in possession of stolen goods and being a prohibited person to possess a firearm.
Mr Ellis was one of four charged following a major police sting in August that saw more than $50,000 worth of meth allegedly seized in a series of raids in Yarrawonga and Bundalong.
Following the arrests, detective Sergeant Marcus Boyd said community safety was the police’s “number one priority, which is why we will continue to run these investigations to remove illicit drugs from our streets”.
“Drugs like those seized during this operation are not just illegal, they have the potential to destroy lives and fuel further crime,” Sgt Boyd said.
“Our message for anyone involved in the illicit drug trade is clear – there is no safe haven for you in regional Victoria.”
Mr Ellis’ matter was adjourned to January 9, 2025.
Mr Ellis made no application for bail.
