An alleged killer due to stand trial in the Supreme Court for the death of his partner is facing fresh assault charges after he was arrested on Wednesday.

Adam Winmar, 29, applied for bail in the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court on October 31 after he was held in remand overnight.

Mr Winmar, formerly of Shepparton, has been charged with recklessly causing injury, assault, damaging property and without lawful excuse intentionally strangling a woman between September and October this year.

The court heard Mr Winmar denied “most aspects of the current police allegations”.

Magistrate Michael Wighton told the court the fresh allegations against Mr Winmar were “very serious”.

Mr Wighton told the court Mr Winmar was on bail from the Supreme Court for manslaughter.

“She died as a result of discharging a firearm which he owned,” Mr Wighton said.

Mr Wighton said if Mr Winmar was found guilty of the fresh charges he would likely receive a term of imprisonment.

The court heard Mr Winmar had not breached any previous conditions of his bail.

Mr Wighton granted Mr Winmar bail after he was found suitable for the Court Services Integrated Program (CISP).

Mr Winmar will be required to report to the Richmond police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
